AIRCRAFT
VICKERS VISCOUNT DETAILS & FLEET LISTING
The  Viscount is a British medium-range turboprop airliner first flown in  1948. It would go on to be one of the most successful of the  first-generation post-war transports, with 445 being built. Dan Air made  use of ten Viscounts in total. It is noteworthy that each time the type  entered the Dan Air fleet it only served for approximately one year.  Two leased versions from Alidair served during the Winter season of  1975. An Air Bridge Carriers vessel served with the company from march  1975 until October of that year. When Dan Air eventually purchased two  of the type outright they came in the form of 800 series and they first  joined the fleet in January 1979, followed by her Sister ship in March  that year. The first had left the fleet by October 1980 and the final  aircraft to serve with Dan Air (G-BCZR) left the fleet in May 1981.  Although the aircraft was superbly designed and had much popular appeal  it never had the enduring appeal to Dan Air as the superlative Hawker  Siddeley 748 which served the airline for over 20 continuous years, with  up to 20 of the type flying with the company at any one time.   Throughout this section of the website we have endeavoured to find a  photograph of each individual aircraft. There are thumbnail  images of all the liveries the aircraft wore whilst with Dan Air, and in  many cases, the prior and subsequent liveries with other operators. The  thumbnail images can be enlarged by simply clicking on them.
