ANITA BURNHARD - DAN AIR REMEMBERED

Go to content
I never actually taught, but certainly learned a lot. I rked as a Flight Attendant for 13 years (9 in UK with Dan Air, 4 in Oman Royal Flight in Muscat) I married Frank in 1984. (he is a pilot with SIA) Went back to college to do Business Studies Dip, then into marketing.
The we Moved to Singapore for eight years, and now been living in Brisbane for four years. We have one daughter, Olivia (18 years old) at Hairdressing Academy. Frank is still living in Singapore. I would love to hear from anyone who has happy memories to share.

I do remember one day in the 80's, being delayed and bored in the crew-room, and actually reading some of the
'notices to aircrew' after (yet another) complaint from the Dan Air Uniform Stores, run by the miserly Tony Selby-Lowndes and Oona Healy, I decided to take matters into my own hands ... I wrote out a (humourous) notice calling members of the SAS (Special Air Stewardesses) to storm the Uniform Stores which the notice stated had been 'taken over' by the mean, infamous dictator 'Seedy Looney-Towns' and his side-kick 'Heena Oonley'. They were holding ?? thousand items of uniform hostage, and demanding a ransom ... and a fast plane to ??? where they had a secret cache of uniforms... It started with: "Following the successful raid on the Iranian Embassy by the SAS....." and mentioned the Chief of the SAS - 'Fanny Jord', and wearing a pair of the Dan-Air issue support tights over your head to protect your identity ("Remember, one pair of tights fits two... so, bring a friend...' etc. etc.) The notice was really meant to keep any poor, delayed souls amused but, apparently, it was photocopied and found its way to the Dan-Air offices in Horley... and even all the way to Head Office in London - where it caused a fair bit of amusement!!! I never admitted that this was my handiwork; even when David Hughes, the Industrial Relations Manager, showed me a copy of it in his office and asked me, point blank, if I had written it.... just glad it gave people something to smile about. I never did keep a copy of it, and I would LOVE it if someone out there has one and could copy it for me... AH! Those were the days...
